Ever since I started working with WordPress™, I have always disliked the sidebar admin panel on the dashboard. For some reason, I have a mental block with finding things there..it just seems to take me forever and time is money. Now maybe it’s just my brain not functioning right, you never know. Or at least, that’s what I’ve been told. But never mind that, I just ignore the comments.
The Best Admin Panel Plug-in Ever for WordPress!

However, last year I went on a quest to find something that would make things easier for me. I tried a few things, but they didn’t seem to be any better. But, I finally stumbled across the Ozh’ Admin Drop Down Menu plug-in. I don’t know how I missed it. I can’t tell you how much I love this plug-in. Now with every installation of WordPress™ the very first plug-in I install is this one. Talk about making my life easier! Simply put, it puts all the WordPress™ admin links in a nice neat horizontal row at the type which I find easier to user.
But it does so much more than that. It gives me so much more real estate on the main page. Moving the admin bar from the side to the top makes so much sense to me. There are some cool customizations that use can use also.

One of my favorite features is the actual drop down menu. I don’t have to click on Pages and then click on Add new or Edit. I can just click on whatever I need in the drop down and easy find what I need.

Yep…An Addiction
Hi, my name is Sandy, and I’m addicted to WordPress™ plug-ins. And I’m also proud of it!
Some people watch movies in their spare time. Me? I can spend hours browsing through all of the plug-ins and it never fails…. I find one for my list of those to try. I know, that’s really sad. Gotta get a better life sometime.
Why am I addicted? It seems that if I have found that if I want to do something with a WordPress installation I figure I can’t be the only one who has had the same desire. And I’m right 98% of the time. A little searching and I find that someone has written a plug-in for me so that I can accomplish my task. Well, maybe they didn’t write it for me but sometimes it sure feels like that.

I have a client who has a need for WordPress Multi-User (WPMU). I had never really done one but I thought, hey, I know WordPress, I can do this. Boy, did I have a lot to learn. Sure it’s WordPress but there are so many more aspects to it. Even the installation is very different.
However, it has been fun. I’m learning more and more every day. This particular client wants to have blogs but it is not for just everyone. Everyone is screened and purchase their blog for a specific purpose. Each blog comes with about 50 pre-determined pages that cannot be changed. So the first thing I had to do was build the main site with everything required and then set about dealing with all of the other blogs to be built. Thankfully I don’t have to deal with many themes so that does make it easier, although I’m even having a tough time choosing them. So many to choose from. Read the rest of this entry »

I was very pleased with the success of the first WordPress™ 101 class held on May 2nd. We had a full house and a lively group of attendees .
I used no PowerPoints in the class but chose to go live all the way. (that can be scary if the internet goes down) We created a basic site using just the default template. I did give them a glimpse of the new template coming out with WordPress 3.0 It’s much more robust than the old ones, but I’ll talk about that in another post. Read the rest of this entry »
