A WordPress™ plug-in is a piece of software written to extend or enhance the capabilities of WordPress™. There are some must have plug-ins and other that just simply make your life easier. Some of these plug-ins are noticeable from just looking at your site after implementing but others are great little tools that work on the back-end of WordPress™ but make it run smooth and can even help take the load off your server.

This class is designed for the WordPress™ user who wants to make the most of their WordPress™ installation.  When I started working with WordPress™ a little over two years ago I was a total novice.  I’m not a programmer nor a developer.  However, I found that WordPress™ suited my needs and have since built over 35 sites. My constant in all of these installations  are plug-ins. Each time i build a site I seem to find more I want to try.  There are over 9, 682 plug-ins listed as of today on the WordPress site. And there are many more that can be found elsewhere.  How do you identify the right plug-in?  Well, that’s part of the class that I’m going to be teaching. I’m really looking forward to this.

Who Should Attend?

• Individuals wanting to learn about WordPress™ plug-ins.
• Business owners or employees responsible for their company’s WordPress™ website.
• For those who have a site but have no money to hire someone nor do they have programming experience
• Individuals considering WordPress™ for your next project. Learn how to “make it work”

Objectives:

• Learn exactly what a plug-in is and the types of plug-ins available
• Understand how to search and find plug-ins to meet your needs
• Understand how to install a plug-in (automatically and via FTP)
• Know which plug-ins that every site should have and why
• Understand how plug-ins and  social media can work together to enhance your site

Our ultimate goal is to have you leave with the ability to find plug-ins that you need for your own WordPress™ site to work exactly as you want it to.  Without having to be a programmer!!

Training will include:

• Basic overview of WordPress™  plug-ins
• Basic overview of the installation of WordPress™ plug-ins. We will discuss about at least 30 plug-ins
• Where to find plug-ins
• Integrating your Social Media with plug-ins
• Live scenarios showing before and after results of using key plug-ins
• Ask questions that were asked during the registration process about your need for a plug-in

What this training is not:

• No programming tweaks will be shown…class is designed for the non-programmer however everyone can use plug-in information
• A class about basic computer skills.  Knowing your way around a computer should be fundamental before taking this step
• Installing WordPress™

What will be available at the venue:

• Free Wifi
• Tables and electricity
• Water (we will not be providing food  as part of our fee but orders can (and should be) placed from the menu with individual tickets just as we do at our Monday night meeting. This helps keep the cost of the room down)
• We will mostly be using an overhead screen with live internet demonstrations as well as screen captured demonstrations.
• You will leave with a DVD with reviewing what has been taught in the class so that you can go back over whatever area of instruction you need.
